‘Uncelebrated Journey’ aims to celebrate the extraordinary life of a local poet, Alfred Williams. Working on the Great Western Railway factory floor, Williams had six books of poetry published, the most famous of which entitled ‘Life in a Railway Factory.’ So great was his notoriety that he was given the nickname ‘the Hammerman Poet’ by the Daily Mirror.

​

The evening, full of specially commissioned pieces of music and dance seek to illustrate Williams’ amazingly varied life. Not only was he a factory worker and poet, he also served in the First World War as a Gunner and travelled to India.
